A low-background gamma ray spectroscopy system has been used for nondestructive determination of 210Pb, 226Ra, 134Cs and 137Cs in lake sediment. The particle-reactive 210Pb attaches to aerosols, is deposited, and can be used to date sediments in the anthropogenic time scale. Atmospheric natural fallout of 210Pb is not the only source of 210Pb in sediment.
